El género y el voto en las elecciones presidenciales en América Latina

¿Por qué las mujeres y los hombres votan de manera diferente en las elecciones presidenciales? Gran parte de la investigación sobre género y decisión de voto se ha centrado en Estados Unidos y Europa Occidental, prestando menos atención al Sur Global. Se desarrolla una teoría sobre las brechas por sexo en el voto presidencial, que muestra cómo la ideología, el feminismo y las personalidades de género pueden ayudar a explicarlas. Para ponerla a prueba, se diseñaron y aplicaron encuestas para las elecciones presidenciales de Chile en 2021, Brasil en 2022 y Argentina en 2023. Los resultados muestran que la ideología y el feminismo explican en gran medida los votos divergentes de hombres y mujeres por las candidaturas presidenciales. Las personas de izquierda, quienes se identifican como feministas y las personas encuestadas con actitudes más feministas fueron más propensas a votar por Gabriel Boric en lugar de José Antonio Kast, por Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva más que por Jair Bolsonaro y por Sergio Massa en lugar de Javier Milei. A diferencia de lo que ocurre en Estados Unidos, las personalidades de género de los latinoamericanos no parecen influir en su decisión de voto.

Catherine Reyes-Housholder, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

Estadounidense. Doctora en Gobierno por la Universidad de Cornell (Estados Unidos). Profesora asociada del Instituto de Ciencia Política de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Integrante de la Red de Politólogas - #NoSinMujeres. Su investigación se centra en las presidencias y el género en América Latina.

Estadounidense. Doctora en Ciencia Política por la Universidad de Arizona, en Estados Unidos.
